We’ve lived in our current house almost 8 years. The first 7 years, I did most of the cooking, except stuff on the grill, and I also put away leftovers and did the dishes (sometimes he does the dishes and it takes all my might not to move them where they correctly go in the dishwasher!!!) When Hubby retired last year, he said he was going to take over the cooking. Fine by me, I really don’t enjoy it. I am a Michigan girl, so casseroles and crock pot meals are my specialty. I just don’t see the point in spending hours in the kitchen, to have it eaten in 10 minutes and then clean up. And, Hubby is a good cook. He loves looking up recipes and watching cooking shows. Good for him. Yesterday evening he was making Parmesean Crusted Cod with a Lemon Dill sauce. It was delicious. But, while he was cooking, he was trying to also put things away and pulled a glass container out of the pantry and it had stuck to the glass container it was on top of and crash!, glass container broken. He yelled out, “We have to do something about this pantry!” While he swept up the broken glass with the broom, I went and got the vacuum cleaner for him to sweep up the little stuff. I then started emptying out two cabinents. For two people, we have a lot of dishes, although, in my defense, we used to hold big family meals before my son got divorced and my parents got sick. I was able to release a couple of things, but thought, you know, when and if we move, (I am hoping to a cooler climate!), I’ll go through it then. I’ve moved so many times, I’m pretty much a pro of releasing stuff, when I have to. Let me also say, when he started cooking last year, he did redo the pantry to his liking, but he also started buying kitchen appliances and gadgets, that maybe he’s used once or twice? So, the pantry filled up again. The thing is, I didn’t get upset. Had it happened the weekend before, it might have been a different story, I was in a much more volatile mood then, but got over it, did some clearing and healing on my part, so when the blow up happened this weekend, I just shrugged my shoulders and did what I needed to do. I did stand my ground when he wanted to use two other cabinents to put the dishes for leftovers in, and I said no, I’m making room for you here. Because, honestly, I am a lot more effecient and flow oriented than he is, so I believe this new arrangement will work. I was outside gardening all morning while he was readjusting the pantry, and it’s not all done yet. I’ll give it a few days and if he hasn’t finished, I will go in and do some of my own readjusting. And that is what relationships are all about right? Readjusting, constantly. Give and Take. Sometimes one step forward and two steps back, maybe even four. We are working on 43 years together, and still finding new ways to be, especially as our bodies and minds are doing the same. It’s all good. Blessings.

And yes, I do collect coffee mugs!
