Bath towels and washcloths

I wasn’t planning on going through the bath towels and washcloths. It started out with buying toilet paper at Sam’s and trying to find a place for them in my bathroom cupboard, which I then started sorting through all the stuff in there and noticed all the washcloths. Ok, I had 6 in there. I don’t use washclothes. I take a shower everyday, and wash my face with a natural sea salt soap I buy from a woman in Colorado. I do occasionally have guests, and I did buy some new towels last December, with the washcloths to go with them, because it seemed like none of our washcloths went with any of our towels. I made a rum and coke with a splash of lime (seemed like the perfect drink for sorting), put on some Lofi music and laid out all the towels and washcloths that were in my bathroom and Hubby’s bathroom. Yes, we have seperate bathrooms. It is better that way. I usually get up before him, so use the guest bathroom, and have most of my clothes in one of guest rooms, known as my granddaughter Cora’s room. Rarely do guests sleep in there as she has a kid bed and it is very uncomfortable. I digress. I laid out all the towels and washcloths. Then I asked myself the burning question, “Why is it when we buy new bath towels, we don’t give the others away?” The first thought that came to mind was, well, if there is a plumbing leak, we have enough towels to sop up the mess. I had 18 towels and 16 washcloths. And, knock on wood, have never had a plumbing mess, at least in this house. I was able to release 5 towels and 5 washcloths. My Hubby does use washcloths, so I kept the softer ones. Who knows how old some of these towels are! I did keep 2 old ones for when I wash the dog, and of course the 3 beach towels. So now I have 13 towels and 11 washcloths. Still seems like a lot for 2 people, but I will still give myself a gold star for parting with the ones I did. They will be donated to our local Goodwill and hopefully someone else can put them to use. There are a couple of empty spaces where the towels I am giving away were. I am sure the space will be filled up with something else, but I will try to keep them empty for awhile. It is nice to open a door and see an empty space. Several years ago I was doing a class with a friend and one of the suggestions was to have one spot in your house that was empty. I did it for awhile on one of my kitchen counters, until I didn’t. I’m pretty sure I’ve written before about how I go through phases whether I have to or not (sometimes moving necessitates it) of going through my stuff and releasing it, or finding a better place for it in the home. Problem is, I like things in front of me, because if I put stuff away in drawers, I forget that I have it, and don’t use it. Catch-22. Hmmm….second time today that little phrase has come up today. Yin/Yang, dark/light, etc. You get the drift. Blessings.
